A Bay Area resident since 2002, mezzo-soprano DARCY KRASNE has been an active member of choral and operatic endeavors in Berkeley and San Francisco. After growing up in Los Angeles and receiving her primary and secondary education at Crossroads School for the Arts & Sciences, she spent four years in England as an undergraduate at the University of Oxford, where she performed in numerous productions of Gilbert & Sullivan's operettas with the Oxford University Gilbert & Sullivan Society. She also performed the sung role of the Nurse in the 2002 OUCDS production of Medea, the triennial Oxford Greek Play. Here in the Bay Area, she has been a member of several groups on the Berkeley campus, including Perfect Fifth (an eight-to-fifteen-person early music ensemble, dir. Mark Sumner) and the UC Chamber Chorus (dir. Marika Kuzma); and she has performed away from the academic sphere with Paul Flight's Haydn Singers and Chora Nova. Darcy has appeared in several productions with San Francisco's acclaimed light opera company, the Lamplighters (Gondoliers '05, Ruddygore '06, Merry Widow '07, Iolanthe '09, and four Galas), and in November 2007 she sang First Witch and First Sailor in Purcell's Dido and Aeneas with Alice's Renaissance String Band. During the past two summers (2007 & 2008) she attended the opera training program BASOTI, singing in several scenes and also the role of the Sorceress in Dido and Aeneas. She studies voice with Deborah Benedict.
